About International School Benghazi
ISB is very proud to be counted as the first GEMS school in Libya after the Revolution and one of the latest managed schools which form part of its global network.
The school occupies a newly built school on Al Hawaree Road, approximately 7 km outside of Benghazi. With large outdoor play areas, the school is a safe and supportive place for students and staff to work together to achieve success.
We follow the British Cambridge curriculum at Primary school level and the National Curriculum for England in Secondary school. The Libyan Government requirements are structured to meet the needs of the students and maintain the standards of the school. The subjects include Arabic language, Islamic Studies, Libyan History and Citizenship. There is a mosque within the school grounds available to students and staff.
The language of instruction is English and students are expected to communicate in English both inside and outside the classroom.
We have many teachers qualified to UK standards who have international experience. We also have teachers from other countries that have experience teaching the British curriculum and have passed our high standards to be given a position at ISB. All are native English speakers and have recognised teaching qualifications.
We admit children to our Nursery from the age of 3 years and accept students up to 18 years of age to take British IGCSE and A Level Public Examinations. The class numbers are set at 22 with many subject classes having ten or less students in the Secondary school. In the Primary school, all classes have a Teaching Assistant to help the Class Teacher.
Our curriculum includes the Core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, plus History and Geography from a world perspective, ICT, French, Music, PE and Art. In the Secondary School, Business Studies is also available from IGCSE level. The curriculum is designed to match the English model giving sufficient time for students to acquire a sound knowledge of each subject area.
Transport to and from school is available from many locations in Benghazi using the school’s own buses and drivers.
